Substance Misuse and Suicide Prevention
Minnesota Community-Based Substance Misuse and Suicide Prevention Coalition
Mission: To empower our communities to prevent suicide and substance misuse.
Vision: We envision a community where every individual has the support, resources, and resilience to overcome substance misuse and mental health challenges, leading to a future of hope, healing, and well-being.
In the spring of 2024, Horizon Public Health was awarded the Minnesota Community-Based Substance Misuse and Suicide Prevention Coalition Grant. This initiative seeks to prevent both substance misuse and suicidal experiences by addressing their shared risk and protective factors—factors that influence the likelihood of experiencing these challenges.
This grant builds on existing community collaborations and establishes new partnerships to tackle substance misuse and mental health concerns. Through cross-sector collaboration, efforts will focus on community-wide initiatives, public awareness campaigns, policy and practice improvements, and increased access to mental health resources.
The grant work prioritizes youth aged 10 to 24 and spans five counties, with particular attention to Traverse and Grant counties.
